I have set up this thread for discussions between persons who have concerns or questions with regard to the imminent launch in Early 2006 of a free satellite digital television service from the BBC - FreeSat.

These are the concerns and questions about the service I have.

1) Technology
Will the boxes provided by the manufacturers be "dumb" boxes with no card slot? Will we be able to use systems like the ones available at LIDLs for £80? What satellite will the BBC FreeSat system use? How many channels will it be able to carry?

2) Channels
Will FreeSat offer channels Freesat-From-Sky doesn't? Will any Sky channels like Sky News, Sky Three or Sky Sports News be available on FreeSat? Who will control the channel lineup?

3) Individual subscriptions
Would individual subscriptions to channels like NASN or FilmFour be possible?

4) Does Free mean Free
Will we have to purchase a FTV card to watch C4/five?

I ask because as a baseball fan I would buy the BBC FreeSat system and subscribe to NASN as well as watch Wednesday Night Baseball on C425. Apart from that I am happy with my TUTV lineup of UKGold and Discovery, and my Freeview lineup.

Does any forumer have any details about FreeSat - from BBC/ITV?
