by the way, has it been mentioned that although iplayer web uses forest as the BBC1 ident, virgin uses bikes. in full.

Not quite full is it? A few seconds short? Full enough though of course.

I watched Click today, surprising how long it was but it was poorly edited.

Ah. Now I've noticed that if you choose content from another BBC ONE nation, (well I know it works for BBC ONE NI or BBC ONE Scotland content), you'll get the full forest ident on the Virgin Media iPlayer. You also get another reminder of the iPlayer logo after the ident.

It's 31 seconds of delight for an ident fan, but would probably really irritate a 'normal' viewer who just wants to watch the show. I love it, but am trying to find a way to capture somehow. I just don't have th kit any more.

One other thing - I notice that VM iPlayer cuts off about a second at the start so as soon as the on demand content starts to play, hit rewind so it'll go back to the very start - then enjoy the "<" swoosh in from the right.

maybe thats why they're so long. if VM has a habit of cutting off the start then maybe they have long idents to prevent the actual show from being damaged. this would also explain why the lead in on the traditional BBC catchup seemed to be overlong too.

I wonder if its to do with the scientific atlanta boxes being crap and taking a moment to "tune in" to the channel. perhaps the superior samsung box manages to catch this missing second.

Just seen from over at Digial Spy that the iPlayer is now part of TV Catch up On Demand so you no longer have to press the red button.

A more limited version of the iPlayer service has been available to Virgin Media subscribers via red button since late last month.

Wonder what the mean my more limited, could this be a more advanced red button application coming or do they think the Catch Up is more advanced. The current red button application allows SMS style search, something the catch up section can't do but would be very useful!

And finally, the Catchup section now seems to be listed with most recent at the top of the list, much nicer this way as you don't need to press page down to get to prime time stuff!

i notice its meant to be from monday. There are some things in catchup with the iplayer sting but its still using the old menu system.

Course we just had a rather big firmware update.... Something interesting might happen on monday?

Perhaps they mean more limited than the computer version?

All BBC programmes in the Catch up section are now direct from the iPlayer. When you go to the Catchup section, select all channels, then press iPlayer and it loads the red button application. Or, if you just go to the A-Z section and its mixed in like normal

and indeed the channel name is now BBC iPlayer. Perhaps however some sort of new branding system will appear on Monday.

I read on cableforum that 4od is meant to be getting a new look on virgin by the end of the year too.

What does annoy me about 4od is the fact its split across two sections with not as much stuff as online has.

I wanted to watch the inbetweeners however I had to use their vile kontiki program due to the fact I cannot find any episodes aside from 5 and 6 on the virgin menu system. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

so it would appear that selecting iplayer on the channel list of catch-up now changes to BBC1 and triggers the press red app. Bit clunky to be honest, and a shame they couldn't integrate some of the functionality such as search into the main catalogue.

And WHY is blue used for "next letter" as well as cancel the loading screen on the main pages. If you press red too many times and then try to press blue to cancel the action by the time the box bothers to interpret your command it triggers next letter and you have to press green another 10 times to get back to the page you wanted. useless software.

It now uses Forest on VM. And has the iPlayer ident twice. Which look silly.
