So it's launched today. You press red, go through the bridge and get a snazzy little interface.

Annoyingly however the bf with his samsung box gets a lovely translucent effect on his iPlayer whilst me with my Scientific Atlanta grottorama has nasty black bars and its chugging again. I think I'm going to phone and shout at them.

It's good, have to wait like 15 seconds to get to the menu from the red button, but once in, it's actually alright to navigate.

And a nice little BBC iPlayer ident / logo and wipe into the programme.

Struggled to get into it here on my Pace box, got the usual 'On demand not available' message first time I tried. The menu looks a bit odd - the widescreen picture behind it ends up slightly lower then usual

I don't really see how the iPlayer is diffrent to what we've had for the last 2 years except being red-button linked. I hope it remains linked with the rest of the on-demand offerings as it's handy having them sorted by day

The shows aren't just taped off the telly for starters, they seem to be the nice cleaner versions that you get online. Picture quality also seems improved although I've not yet watched a full episode of a show.

I do like the search function in particular, much better than the standard on demand menus.

Also there is far, far more content than what we were getting with Catch Up.

Does it include the 'TV Choice On Demand' content though? Hopefully this will stay on Virgin as that contains a lot more content than the iPlayer

Yeah, TV Choice is separate from Catch Up and iPlayer.

Strange how they offer the repeats as well, especially the same night repeats.

At the moment, but I wonder whether the BBC sections of 'Catch Up' and 'YV Choice' will disappear once the iPlayer is launched officially

Catch up probably but I can't see a reason for why TV Choice would. They're older programmes that are unavailable on iplayer.

Quite slow, but then Catch Up TV isn't the fastest thing I've ever used. Like the search tool! Interface is okay, if a bit over the top.

EDIT: Just realised the search is muti-tap which is annoying.

Argh, hate that DOG!
