The mirror globe and 1991 ident were also absent. Both of those and the balloon wouldn't have blended into the animation very well.
Ooh exciting. Odd they didn't feature the balloon in that tumblr gif.

I'm not sure about that, I think the balloon could have worked pretty well. Either way, I quite like it - nothing like having John Cleese turn into Ceefax graphics! Honouring 4:3 too, and the little Tardis on the zoom out.
Nice to see the globe being prominent rather than just ending with the logos. If there's anything that's another symbol for the BBC, it has to be that.

It was on last night just before Comic Relief at 7.
New "Innovation" video piece just aired on BBC1 - first airing?

I've just found a slightly different version of the 'Where Next' trailer on the ad agency's website:
http://www.pulsefilms.com/work/bbc-where-next/
The main difference seems to be that the girl is dancing in front of The Beatles' Our World performance on TV rather than actually 'being there', which is presumably for rights reasons.

Interesting - thanks for the link. Also noticed the transition from B&W to colour is a basic wipe... It's missing that blurry chromatic aberration effect seen in the final sequence.

It just reminds us how good the BBC was back in them days, rather than now. The media seem to just be running them down all the time these days; they make the BBC sound evil, etc, and people just don't feel the novelty that the BBC used to carry.
I also have to say I miss Ceefax. That was probably one of the best things the BBC have ever done and ever will do. It's such a shame Ceefax had to come to an end just because of the Digital Switchover.
What's happened to the BBC?
It keeps giving, that trailer. I still like the 'ascent of man' pose the engineer does in the second scene.

Nothing is wrong with the BBC. The only problem is you.
