Also here email addres icon has gone possibly a hoax??????????????

I noticed that too! As soon as I mentioned she didnt have a BBC email address it disappeared!

My mums friend does make up on BBC Breakfast. It's a long shot but I could ask if she knows of any Alice's in Stage 6. I'm sure there will be a few but at least it may give us a clearer picture.

It's such a shame that this is all we've heard all week - copyright, why did it have to be made?http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Good idea. Anyway lets just all calm down!
The copyright issue was only really brought up by Identz which is (even if it is true) is different to the other tv sites as they are broadcast quality sounds, I get the feeling that few people are going to start a tv channel and use clips from tv sites!
Anyway it may have been a friendly warning from Alice, so lets not jump on her!
TV Home is once again slightly different as it has been featured on Liquid News, as of course has Asa.
I mentioned this before to Rob but will do so publically question any 'official' e-mail you get as there are services like 'send fake mail' that allows the user to send annonymous e-mails that look like they are from any address, so I suggest e-mailing an address you know of normally and asking for conformation, but as I said before its unlikely to be needed.

I heard that the BBC would not just prosecute. If they had anything on this site - or any others - that effects them and want it removed, they would ask the webmaster first and then if they don't further action could eb taken.

I think it's getting a little out of hand this copyright business!

I, personally, am also a bit scepticle about this, why would a BBC employee personally warn us about a threat of legal action while she is actually IN the BBC offices. Also if it is true Asa has always put in his video files that they will be removed at the broadcaster's request (on Real Player right click when playing one of his files and press About this presentation).

Lets hope Asa doesn't have to remove any of his content.

I don't think it's getting out of hand.
Copyright legislation has always been in place, but on the most part a 'blind eye' attitude has been taken.

But when web sites blatently infringe Copyright, that's when it gets out of hand as you say.

Whether or not a disclaimer is placed with a file, if you don't have the express permission of the Copyright owner to use the material you are breaking the law.

As I say, a blind eye has been turned in the past, but who knows what will happen in the future

When I said this copyright business is getting out of hand I meant this talk of 'possible prosecutions' coming through in loads of threads, I am not against the idea of copyright.

To back-up what he says, this is the PRS/MCPS view:

The Copyright Design and Patents Act (1988) gives the owners of these copyrights the exclusive right to carry out the following 'restricted acts' with their property.

To issue copies of the work to the public - i.e. to distribute or sell CDs, videos, musical toys etc.  (Note to all - Distrubute OR Sell. .. Distrubute meaning, for example, put on websites)

Any person who does, or authorises another to do, any of these acts without consent from the copyright owner infringes copyright. Copyright owners are rewarded by collecting income, for example by licensing others to carry out 'restricted acts'. If anybody wishes to carry out any of the restricted acts, they have to seek permission from the copyright owner.

This may be different than idents/presentation, but although it's been broadcast, the original copyright still lies with the broadcaster.

Whatever the BBC want to do, I'm sure they will do it.

Anyone remember the whole Teletubbies copyright saga?

If this Alice character is what she says she is, and she means what she says (sorry for that tongue-twister!) then the BBC are taking every opportunity to stop ident fans like us recording/capturing extended idents, hence they didn't show any BBC2 ident at closedown last night, and the trailers cut into Pages From Ceefax! This makes me Sad. Clear now?

Yes indeed.

But have you really thought this though? It's a bit of a silly suggestion to think that the BBC will make the idents and not show them just in case there's 50 or so people out there with their fingers on a capture card. Even more with videos. Its unthinkable is it not?

What next? The BBC coming to the Forum saying, 'This is BBC 1. We have a brand new look for the coming season, but you guys are leeches so it wont be broadcast. Get your idents from someone else.'http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Seriously though, Alice (through the looking glass I presume - nice touch) is a hoax. Lets let this one die, shall we?
