Rubbish. Firstly, balloons are prevalent in areas of the country such as Sussex, Kent etc- for some- seeing them is a daily occurrance.

I grant that fact but I personally haven't seen a balloon in this country for a very long time.

When was the last time you saw someone performing a Brazillian dance on top of a tall building?

But the thing is I had never even heard of Capoeira until I saw it on BBC ONE. I now know that there are loads of different kinds of dances that I never knew about or appreciated thanks to the BBC ONE idents.

I think if you did some research, you would find that the balloons were, on the whole, preferred to the current idents.

You say that now considering that we haven't seen the globe for almost three years. Had we seen it day in day out people would be grumbling as they always do.

I for one HATE the PC brigade that feels it constantly has to shove minorities on screen - and the current set of 'idents' are doing just that.

Need I remind you that this is a public service broadcast and therefore has to show minorities. At least the idents show the wide variety of different people in our society and begins to show to us that they are being more widely accepted (like they should be). Would you rather ignore everyone who's different and act as though they aren't important?

No- i'd rather a more neutral symbol was adopted, ie the globe or balloon for that matter. And idents do not have a legal requirement to show minorities, by the way.
Interestingly enough, the globe appeared on our screens day in and day out from the 1950's until 3 years ago and nobody grumbled.

You also asked the open question of 'when was the last time anyone saw a balloon?' ... and I told you.
Just because YOU haven't seen any doesn't mean there are none around!

Blimey...
