I hate to say this, given I'm a regular reader of this forum, but if I stopped watching a channel because it had naff idents, I would only have seen BBC Two since TVS and the Anglia flag disappeared.
Sadly, idents should signify what a channel is all about, and should not be a reason to abandon a channel?
Hold on - what am I saying?
That means that BBC Two is about egg yolks. Argh! It's turning into Taste CFN. That sounds like a reason to abandon a channel. (Please don't kill me Taste CFN fans - only a joke

The Ally Pally reference was merely to try and sum up the BBC's occasional up-itself attitude. I just think that the globe has had its day. BBC One isn't the be all and end all of TV in the UK anymore, and the idents should change to reflect this.
I liked the 1991-1997 bbc 1 numeric symbol and also the laserdisc spinning globe.
I think when the ditch the balloon, they should give us back some sort of computerised spinning globey type thing.

You know I got a funny feeling it won't be a globe that the BBC will be running as there new idents, and rightly so!
The BBC is entering a new digital era with the relaunching of choice and knowlage to BBC 3 & 4. BBC one needs to be realuched along with all the other channels and this independant review of News 24 reminds me of 1999, Flags Era, Deja Vu??
If BBC One were to scrap the balloon bring in new more people-oriented idents, it would be nice if they could keep the yellow/red globe theme - I hope they don't ditch the globe.
They could feature scenes with e.g. footballs, cricket balls, frisbee, circular carpet, circular kite, umbrella, circular road sign, round plate and lots of other circular/round objects painted up in read and yellow with the globe map. Quite a lot of possibilities there...

I didn't read that mtda I suppose the idea of using the globe image in objects is a logical progression of the balloon, and opens up lots more possibilities.
Will they be trying to give each channel as different a look as possible, or try to keep some kind of theme running through all the channels (please don't make it the yellow background ).

I think each each channel will have it's own colour scheme
bbc2= yellow,purpleand white
but each channel will follow the same layout

BBC 4 will be excellent I'm led to understand I've been given the details of what they're planning to do to it.
