I would happily take a big pair of sharp scissors to that balloon and replace it with a big steaming turd or Greg Dykes head on a revolving stick. Very Happy

What they replace them with will probably be worse though,

Just look at BBC Choice, ident set 1 to set 2

And you can't possibly of liked the '1', all It did was spin, no music, no different versions.

It makes the ITV1 Generic idents look good, at least they have a noise:shock:

The ident was probably so good visually, it didn't need sound-effects - those were left to our imagination!! Very Happy

OK, I'm going to be serious for a minute. I do think that BBC One & Two have got their idents the wrong way around really. I think that BBC One idents should be more like the 2's in that they are quirky, lively and personality based. I know the 1 isn't as adaptable as the 2 but BBC One is the mainstream entertainment channel and has a really boring ident. If anything the globe should have been on BBC Two.

Anyway when the balloon goes, I can't see them ditching the globe theme which has been their since the year dot. I reckon that on the new idents, the globe will become the central theme but in various different disguises.

i.e.

before sports programming the globe will be represented by a football

or before entertainment type programming it will be a glitterball

and before documentary and news type programming it will actually be a proper globe

and if anyone from the BBC is looking in, you don't need to bother with Mr Lambie Nairn just e-mail me on se@se-tv.co.uk and I'll be happy to develop these ideas further with you.

Or 1962 to be precise:D

I think they may either continue the 'circle' or the 'world' theme, but not both.

For example, have idents where the map or parts of it appear at the end (patterns on fabric, frosted glass, mown into grass) or have asimple logo based on the circle. The whole globe thing is so 'This is the BBC broadcasting from Alexandra Palace' and a bit old now since they aren't exactly 'the whole world'

They did that with the COW in 85! (e.g. on CIN night, Pudsey would sit in place of the globe).

The globe isnt that alexandra palace! TVC opened in 1960 and most BBC TV moved there. The first globe ident was in 1962.

I quite enjoy the BBC One balloon idents. I'm not much of a traveller, so I really do enjoy watching the balloon fly over the beautiful areas in the UK. The soundtrack is also great. I especially like the Snowdon ident where the top of the balloon is shown and it's just rising.

The London Docklands one where it's just sitting there is a wee bit scary though. I mean, it's just sitting there! One of the cranes might pop the bloody thing! Very Happy

I like the millenium dome ident, and the forth bridge one with the long intro.

If BBC ONE has new idents similar to BBC TWO I will consider chucking my TV in the bin!!!
