I presume the BBC conjured up the balloon image to convey a sense of worldliness, encompassing their role as a global service provider.
Perhaps the designers should have given the matter more thought, however. After all, they forgot to take into account the lumbering, unreliable and inefficient characteristics of that particular mode of transport. Nothing like the BBC at all.
And when you consider the history of the baloon (how long has the theme lasted? Yonks), I don't think the decision was particularly bad, do you? They simply modernised the theme. And I think they did a good job personally.
Nope, its a pretty bad poll, anyway I don't think they should be scrapped but they will be so we'd better get used to it. Also any ident of the future will be aleast partially computer generated, but I think some live action should be included. They shouldn't change the logo, its a very nice clean, clear logo and to change it would be stupid, they've only just finished repainting lorries etc!

Live action idents can be all right, but it depends how it's done. Most of the balloon idents are great; but idents that contain people are usually very naff. It's good then that I haven't seen the BBC1 Carnival ident for several months!

Scrap all the current balloon idents, and bring in a new batch filmed at scenic locations around Britain!
(Pembrokeshire would be a great location for an ident featuring the balloon!)
Id like the Spinning Globe again. It has been a good idea and has worked for years- there is no reason it wouldnt work now.

Me too. I never liked that fat ugly monstrosity of a balloon from day one! I'm still a 90s boy, me. Gimme the glass globe (and that stripy '1') any day!
Plus, the spinning-globe had its advantages: they could alter it for a particular event etc... When I run the BBC, it'll be all different!

The balloon is very flexible and I think it is quite good, although BBC ONE is sheduled to be relaunched in January, first the 2's to go then the Balloons!
