The BBC and Hoppipolla

It seems the BBC seem to use this tune by the band Sigur Ros for nearly every compilation clip montage or trailer. Now, don't get me wrong, I think its a lovely song with great build up but isn't it time to use something else?

True, it is become overkill on this one. It'll eventually go in the same pile along with anything from Craig Armstrong, Rob Dougan and Moby for fillers.

Then again they've moved on to another sigur ros song for wimbledon

The B-Side on that single has quite a scary name: Með Blóðnasir

Georgeous song- used to simply magnificent effect in the Planet Earth trails.

Sent shivers down the spine....I fully expect the music to return with the trails for Planet Earth Part II in the coming months.

If there are such awards for trailers, I think Planet Earth deserves them all (not to mention the numerous awards it WILL win as a fantastic programme!)

Hoppípolla: Really good song from a really good band. Although very overused (and strangely pronounced ‘hoppipo ch a’, like ch in ‘loch’).



Yeah, that does look quite scary (I think you say it ‘meth blowthasir’) – InterTran translates it as ‘with blood test’.

Has anyone seen the Sigur Rós TV ad? The narrator incorrectly pronounces the band’s name as ‘sigur ross’, it‘s pronounced ‘see oor roce’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigur_R%C3%B3s)!

I've only seen - I mean heard - it used on the Planet Earth advert. What other trailers has it been used on?

I think C4 used it for something aswell, just after the BBC used it for Planet Earth - can't think of the C4 programme though.

Yes, C4 used it in a trailer for the film ‘Good Will Hunting’ at the end of 2005. No one had heard of it then. A few months later, the BBC uses it, and it gets to no. 24 in the charts!
