They lasted a few years didn't they? Some, if not all of the BBC HD idents lasted longer than BBC's Choice and Knowledge
Nice as they are, they do seem a bit dated. They're very much in the vein of BBC technical demonstration - 'look, this is what HD is!' and everyone knows now.
And yuck: 'going forward' I hate that phrase.
It's a pity the HD Idents were so shortlived really. I guess they were commissioned when it was believed that there would be only one HD channel going forward.

Yes exactly, they're great but HD is such an every day reality for the majority of TV production they do seem a bit "try hard". They'll probably be looked upon in future much like those colour tests of the 50s where everyone's dressed up like it's CBeebies or something

The thing is though that because they did put so much effort into "trying hard" as you put it, they came of looking really impressive (IMO) and polished. They were easily the best idents on the BBC; no silly edits to the visuals or music and junctions built so they could use the idents as they were intended, giving them a bit more time and only speaking after the form up (most of the time).

Did anyone record this then? Was expecting to see a flurry of embedded videos at the bottom of this thread!
