BBC HD - New idents

The new idents for BBC HD appeared today - one to view on the BBC blogs.

Not too sure about them - they're not bad, but not exactly wow! I do get where she's coming from in saying the CGI ones might have been repetitive though. How many are in the new set?

One thing that does stand out to me though is the size of the "Subtitles" DOG. It seems massive on an embedded video online, so god knows what it's like on a 42 inch plasma TV. (Well, even bigger I guess! )

A massive improvement on the old ones... sorry, one... but then I always thought that the CGI logo rising out of the sea looked pretty awful.

Only seen the kids fishing ident so far, and it's breakbumper (sting? I've forgotten what they're called) which is just the moment the HD diamond appears. Very European-looking in an Ikea sort of way, although the very basic logo stamped over the top takes a bit of the gloss off.

Subtitles strap is still massive, for no apparent reason, but at least it's right up out of the way in the top-right corner now.

Endboards for HD service trails are the big black logo from the ident, but over a static background. Not seen any for individual programmes yet.

Just the one ident then? Saw the one off the blog at 10pm (also shown at 9pm?) Not bad, visually nicer than the previous one - the water was dodgy CGI - and the presentation is certainly brighter but for me you still can't beat the moody original one!

Looks a bit like the Stv relaunch there.

I like the look of the new idents - there's just something a bit more BBC about them, and I rather like the concept, from what I can see so far. I also like the fact that the logo now reads 'BBC HD' again, rather than 'HD BBC'.

I see though that the over-sized Subtitles DOG lives on.

Suggests more than one but... that's about it.

I hope there are more: the kids are likely to get more annoying than the dodgy CGI version if they're the only one. Plus, it's a nice idea having the HD diamond exaggerating the scene, and it would be interesting to see what else they could do with the idea.

Is this only for BBC HD UK, will the other BBC HD services get these?

So far, I've yet to see an ident other than the one with the kids fishing. It would appear to be the only one for now at least.

Given that one of the reasons given for getting rid of the previous ident was that it was getting too repetitive, I don't see how replacing it with just one ident will help, unless of course they do start to introduce others along the same theme.
