It would be good if the EPG said " Simulcast/Also on BBC HD" or " Broadcast on BBC HD xx/yy at zzzz" to cover both?

Funnily enough I've just made that suggestion on the BBC HD blog.

(Though I suspect the latter is unlikely as it could end up denting BBC One/Two etc. ratings...)

If that's the case, why have an HD channel at all? And besides, having a note in the programme info would probably benefit those recording a programme in advance the most, who AIUI don't count towards ratings anyway.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to introduce into the next revision of standards a facility whereby if an HD equipped set was tuned to BBC ONE and a programme was simulcast on BBC HD that the set switched automatically to BBC HD for the duration of the BBC ONE / HD simulcast then returned to BBC ONE at it's conclusion.

I don't have HD, so would I be right in thinking that the Squarial-style ident has been ditched?

Yep, it was ditched last year, the new ident is on YouTube and The TV Room to watch.

I don't have an HD reciever, but I have Blu-Ray and I've got Planet Earth on Blu-Ray and the discs have the squrial BBC HD ident and it's stunning to watch (even though it's 5 seconds long), but I think they were silly to ditch that.

[pedant] By Squarial-esque, you probably mean Galaxy-esque. The current logo is still a kite/diamond, just not resembling BSB Galaxy [/pedant]
