I see Danielle Nagler has confirmed that BBC One HD will have a DOG...

I can see that dominating the next series of Points of View.

Hopefully, if enough people protest, it will go the same way as the DOG on the SD channel.

There will be a sustaining service. I'd like to see programmes from Scotland, Wales and N Ireland shown at 1830 daily, maybe a slot for River City for example.

Think you'll find the regional slot is too short for most 30 minute shows. (Most BBC 30 minute shows are 29'00" long - but the regional slot is nearer 26'00" isn't it?)

Regional mostly starts before 6.30 sometimes as early as 6.26 (probably nearly .27) But it doesn't go up to the hour because it compensates for the News update before 8pm, Meaning The One Show starts before 7pm, so 7.30pm programme can start just before, so there is enough time to squeeze the News before back on track at 8!

So the Regional isn't far off 29mins depends on National, but if they made it more organised, I think River City should go in that slot. (Not that I have watched it before)

Any word on if it will be removed for drama, etc?

Will be "interesting" to see what this looks like as the current BBC One logo isn't really DOG friendly.

The regional slot is 27'45" usually. It only gets changed when there are Party Political Broadcasts or DEC appeals. I assume you'll be seeing BBC London news with a strap explaining how regional programmes are available on SD. AFAIK, BBC London is the only English centre which is HD capable anyway.

It won't be a circle with 'one' in it with a slanted HD square, for fear of being confused with UKTV's DOGs.

I'd rather they not bother at all. BBC don't have the commercial argument, and frankly, I'm surprised they still manage to infest BBC Three/Four with those awful DOGs.

If I can't remember what channel I'm watching, the last place I'd want to look is the corner of the screen (or more intrusive position). I'm fully capable of pressing a button to find out far more information.

I appreciate that we have no control over what commercial channels do, but the BBC really should listen to what people want, and it's not DOGs.

Wonder if they will follow ITV1 HD and C4 HD by losing the DOG on SD content and only putting it up for HD stuff. (Or whether it will be like E4HD where the DOG is E4 for SD and E4HD for HD?)

Err - the regional news doesn't vary in length usually as it is an opt and a fixed duration - it certainly doesn't chance in length based on what the National News does...

I think it only varies for very specific reasons - PEBs, PPBs, DEC appeals etc. - or for a very major news story that means the Six is extended, and the N&R bulletin reduced.

I think it runs less than 28'00" currently - so that the network can run early to allow the 90" 2000 update can be squeezed in.

oh, for crying out loud. I've just stumbled across this from Danielle Nagler (whose title now appears to be 'head of HD and 3D') in a response on the letters page of Ariel:
Quote:
BBC One HD will carry a DOG in order to clarify for viewers which version of BBC One they are watching. The DOG is likely to be relatively transparent and located over to the far left of the screen.
We will look after our DOG carefully to ensure that it does not detract from great pictures. In a multichannel world DOGs are an important signpost for our audience, and research that we have done suggests that the majority of people do not object to them.

Because apparently having to select the channel in order to view it does not equal 'knowing which channel they are watching'.

Indeed, and even if you're just surfing down the EPG, you are welcomed by a massive banner telling you the name of the channel and now/next programme information. DOGs have been superfluous for years.

Rather than base their decision on the fact that "the majority of people don't object", why don't they do research to find out who actually wants DOGs? I doubt they'll find anyone choosing to have them.

*confused*

Relatively. In relation, comparison, or proportion to something else.

The BBC head of HD and 3D didn't specify what the 'degree of transparency' will be relative to.

Transparent. Transparent materials are clear, while translucent ones cannot be seen through clearly.

There are no degrees of transparency.

I'm going to guess she meant modestly translucent, or something.
