BBC HD

Thought I'd just mention how good BBC HD's idents are, when these days pretty much every major channel is doing the live action thing, the presentation on the BBC's most hi-tech channel is also the one which harks back to the older style the most.

Unfortuantely I'm not able to capture in HD, so if you haven't seen any of the channel's pres before, you'll just have to imagine it's much better quality than this..!

It's much nicer than most of the other HD channels, which use similar idents to the SD channel, but with the HD logo, like Sky One HD:

I was going to say how slightly Doctor Who-esque that part of the sequence is!

I must say, I've liked this ident far more than anything currently on the Beeb's SD channels, since I first got hold of a clip.

Proof if needed that you don't need to do live action, and you don't need to have a constantly 'busy' sequence in order to make a modern and successful ident - it starts and resolves with nothing more than a blue diamond on a black background - pretty straightforward, echoes of the traditional style but yet, it works darn well!

Exactly right Paul. You almost get the feeling an old fashioned designer got to lead the project of designing the ident - back to the days of doing superb computer animation, a nice little soundtrack and, ending with a graphical logo.

I guess the BBC have never actively promoted the channel on the other BBC channels because it's still a trial?

Having looked on TV Ark at the BBC HD section the idents are very nice, replacing the square with a round objects, such as a globe, they would work for a BBC One ident.

I'd like to see resized HD stills of these idents, nice and all with a slight ring of olde worlde pres (1970-80s) about it.

Shame about the rest of the package, the menus can be near unreadable at times I'll reckon and those trail endboards are godawful.

People of a certain age may think the next programme for schools will begin in two minutes.

Very classy though.

That's a very nice ident, what a shame they don't do anything like that for SD channels nowadays.

Almost makes me want to rush out and by an HD TV
