It brings to mind all that was good about the COW ident. Principally:

1) Elegance. Distinctive, but visually uncluttered
2) The black background meant it would mix or cut nicely to just about anything.
3) It looked right whether you had it on screen for 3 seconds or 23
4) Since it had no beginning or end, it could be left constantly running, ready for you to take in-vision when required. One less thing to worry about in the junction!

A revised COW could also be run with or without music. The dancer idents, with their music, just contribute to the junction clutter. By the time you've had the end music of the preceding programme, three different sets of music behind the trails, then the dancers, then the next programme, you've been through a musical rollercoaster. I'm not knocking the makers of the Dancers music - I think some of it is very good, but I'd welcome the use of just a straight announcer voice in some junctions.

I'm speechless. This is very good!

If there's a BBC decision maker seeing this...you know what decision to make!

Did anyone notice the reflection in the background that smacks of the old mirror globe...plus the obvious resemblance to the COW.

It's such a wonderful combination of tradition, modern graphics technology and style that I really do think it should go into use...and the dancers can cha-cha offstage.

I think it would be a good pre-news ident. One was made but never used but the news does need a special ident.

Rumour has it that a clock was designed as part of the package, but was then never implemented. This presumably was the pre-news ident.

I'm sure if Lorraine brought in a globe, it would not have Britain on it, and Asia and Africa would be disproportionately large.

Either that, or the guidelines surrounding it's implementation would require it to be cut in and out of vision with Asia at the forefront, with serious disciplinary action on the grounds of racism following for any TXC who dares not to follow this.

Can you imagine the outcry from certain sections of the Welsh population if that globe was used?

Haven't you seen the publication from the EU with the map sans-Wales? Some say it's slimming down Britain, removing the rubbish etc... Laughing

Indeed I have, that was exactly the allusion I was making.

Does anyone think that a new globe, like this one, should have audio aswell. I think that it's very difficult to use silent idents on BBC1 now after the dancers and the balloons. Gone are those silent globe days like the COW in the 80s and the laserdisc "1" in the 90s.
