Excellent mock. I really like it. Nice to see a stylish ident (and not a dancer in sight!!!!)

I think it would be a good pre-news ident. One was made but never used but the news does need a special ident.

I don't like the red in it. The background has also taken on a teal green too. Ugh! I prefer Caroline's.

For your first mock, its so much better than the some of the other 'first mocks' , what software did you use?

I used to work for the BBC and have always been in love with the corporate identity (Pre Dancers et al). Currently I work as a video editor in Florida.

In answer to your question, I used Ulead Cool 3D Studio to generate the globes, one normal and the other stretched. I exported them as seperate elements and imported them into Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. I moved the elements arount and applied transparency and a little distortion and added the titles. It took about 3 hours in total.

Thanks for your comments folks and an entertaining community. I guess I'll try some more ideas.

I was wondering if anyone had the skills to convert the still into an SWF clock - I would happily share the credit.

Well you know Lorraine, if she was to do bring in a globe at all, no doubt she would choose red

I'm sure if Lorraine brought in a globe, it would not have Britain on it, and Asia and Africa would be disproportionately large.

Yes, brilliant globe Caroline and brilliant clock Mulder! Is anyone going to send these ideas to the BBC? Not that they'd take any notice of course, but it's worth a try because these are dam good ideas.

No worries, 10 minute job these days Smile BTW, It won't stay in time if you leave it running for a long period of time, but that's because it's set up to enable dumping to video without loosing frames.

Can you imagine the outcry from certain sections of the Welsh population if that globe was used?

Caroline, please send it to the BBC - I know it's a long shot, but hey!
