Now I have always thought BBC Four's box is supposed to be black. However, in recent weeks I have noticed a white box has started creeping in to use.

Tonight, for example, the Glastonbury 'across the BBC trail' showed the white box.

Now I assume the excuse for using a white box is when the black box can not be shown clearly due to the background of the trail, etc. But there appeared to be no reason for showing a white box tonight. (The white box is also used on the new ECP too when IMO the black box would look fine)

Is BBC Four planning on changing the colour of its box or are they using the two boxes together? It looks like unnecessary inconsistency to me.

There have always been two versions of the BBC Four logo. It was designed to be used 'as white' on black backgrounds.

Actually, it's spent some years as a white version on the BBC TV webpage... www.bbc.co.uk/tv

Yes, I had noticed that the BBC TV site are using the white box too.

My point is though, it seems odd that they're using the white box on backgrounds where the black one would look fine.

I noticed this when BBC 4 hosted the repeats of the Seven Ages Of Rock, and again when they showed the Rock In Rio Concert by Iron Maiden.

I think it is kind of music related but i'm not sure.

How the hell is white on black, and black on white inconsistent???

It's not a new thing. They've often used the white version in cases where the black would have been fine. Can't see it particulrly matters. BBC Three has a white variation too and the same happens with that.

Except the BBC Three variation isnt used as much as the constant use of white and black logos on BBC Four. I like it, you can still tell instantly its BBC Four, whether the box is white,or black!

I don't see it matters much. It's just inverted, it's not like if London 2012 used that logo but occasionally the one used for the bid.

I'm not bothered really. I don't really see any inconsistencies, I mean the last thing you want is the black box to clash on black backgrounds, hences why they have a white version.

BBC One sometimes uses the linear logo and sometimes uses the box logo as well which is the same thing.
