Perhaps this is symbollic of the new news 24.
When the titanic was launched its champagne bottle didn't smash, perhaps this is the news 24 equivalent. And we all know what happened to the Titanic!

Yes indeedy - Liquid News were talking to Steph West in LA (she was in a small box with a large box featuring pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow) when he picture disappeared and was replaced by a green screen. Her sound carried on - and they quickly mixed to the Gwyneth pictures full-frame. You could hear someone say in the background in LA "We've lost the connection" or similar.
The rest of the show seemed OK though.

Unfortunately, that's a myth as the White Star Line never christened it's ships.
There was no Champagne bottle rigged on 31st May, 1911, just a lever to send the Titanic down the slipway into the River Lagan.
However, the P&O ship, Aurora's bottle didn't break when that was christened - maybe you were thinking of that as that footage was resurrected when the news channels were reporting on the recent bug aboard?

BBC Two had similar problems on it's launch night...
BBC Two launch website courtesey of Hywel Williams
If the new News 24 goes on to be a successful and respected as BBC Two, I think the BBC will be well chuffed!

Aaah...
The 1958 classic with Kenneth More based on Walter Lord's book.
Dramatic license, I'm afraid.
