These idents are excellent. The programmes associated with them are also excellent. BBC Four have done a great job with these idents.
But, as Andrew Wood pointed out, they aren't being transmitted in HD res. which is, frankly, ridiculous. You can visualize them looking quite stunning in HD but for reasons unknown, they haven't done so. You're left feeling short-changed somewhat.

Well that's an oddity. I was just about to write that yes, Woodland and Beach were in SD but Countryside was in HD, but in the current junction (10pm), Countryside was decidedly in a poor SD.
9pm - nice and sharp
10pm - a little bit fuzzy

Yeah, not that obvious to me, though, as this type of footage is bound to produce a small amount of constant motion blur (evident on my display at least),
Might be an idea to capture one of the shorter version's later playouts this evening (as they've been doing the last two evenings) and see if there's any improvement.

15s of each transmission - the first from 9pm, the second from 10pm. The difference is clear.

You can see the difference, I would like to know how that happens, STV does this aswell.

Sidetracking to STV - with their idents, when they're upscaled SD shown on HD, the 'HD' tag doesn't appear on the logo form-up. Probably a case of not scheduling the correct presentation for the HD broadcast.
