Imagine a similar concept on an ITV ident. Do you want your channel's logo slapped next to two people having a go at each other? I doubt they want to be associated with such behaviour.
Well, there was more than one variant of Office originally, yet they all disappeared at once... Another case of the ident with the greatest choice of versions being pulled from use, unfortunately.
I thought the busier take on the usually serene BBC Four tune was a nice contrast to the rest as well. A shame these, for whatever reason, had to go.
I think therein lies the reason why it was dropped.
Does anyone know why this ident was retired so soon after debut?

They still use this at closedown with "BBC4 begins at 7pm" on it.

Just in passing, I'm rather taken with the design of the current promo for BBC Four's World Music Season due to start next week. I doubt whether there will be any extra presentation around it, but I can hope.

I noticed on the South Bank near the Royal Festival Hall there were a number of old benches with a plaque with the BBC Four logo and that Everyone Needs a Place To Think slogan they used at launch. It was certainly a surprise coming across them, they've done well to last over 10 years.
They've got more of those plaques on benches on the path up to the now closed White City building but you'd expect them there!
