How long has the BBC Films Ident been around for? Caught it earlier, and am slightly unsure in my mind whether I have seen it before on TV....

When exactly did it first get transmitted, and have there been any other variants of the ID prior?

Uploaded a good quality RM file of it HERE now.

i have always thought it was a fantastic ident - been around for years hasn't it?! i've always thought the beeb ought to precede their dramas with something equally as classy

That is indeed a really nice ident. I've never seen it broadcast - under what circumstances does this appear?

I've only ever seen the BBC Films ident which uses the official logo, like the one on the website. The ident features sparks, if I remember correctly.

Are there different versions for cinema and TV?

Mrs Brown often has this preceeding it. Never seen it on UKTV though; would be a nice (albeit pointless) branding exercise were they to do this, however.

In the cinema I seem to recall a sort of explosion of glitter, similar to the website strap shown above.

I'm pretty certain Billy Elliot and Shine also have the same ident preceeding them, though it was a bit odd a few years ago seeing this ident on Sky Box Office.
