there was a period of black screen between the end of the awards and the ident for the film- do i presume that was to help bbc y&l, bbc nw, bbc ne&c and bbc east mids to all opt in cleanly?

3 cheers for kay.

i guess so. it was generic "north" continuity before the beautiful south programme, and we went straight into that ident before the film. no trailers, no gap, no nothing.
edit: only just managed to make it to weatherview after the film. not even an ident.

Just guessing here, but I suspect the film was played out from Pebble Mill as that had the same voice into it as was used into Midlands Sports Awards. Did anyone notice the large (and quite effective !) overlap of the sound from the film onto the last 5 seconds or so of the ident ?

So how come the Northern regions opted out of the Network film and carried The Beautiful South programme? Something to do with Network going via Birmingham ... and them having opted out ?

Does that mean that BBC East Midlands viewers actually saw an erroneous (for them that is) BBC North identification?

Yep... I noticed that here.

I dunno. I don't see why the BBC thought the Beautiful South programme was worthy of only being watched by Northerners, but I don;t think Network goes via Birmingham... since if our regional news fails it's still LDN we see.

No, before the film was a network BBC One ident, from Pebble Mill with their continuity.

Hmmm, may be on satellite, but it certainly used to be the arrangement that if there was a problem with EMT opting/not making it to the transmitters that Midlands Today was AUTOMATICALLY (yes, with no human intevention) routed to the East Midlands...

Is this the arrangement whereby if a transmitter loses it's incoming programme feed it will use an off-air feed of an adjacent transmitter?

so if EMT's studio didn't opt out, that would mean that LDN would go out wouldn't it?

That's what I was just thinking.

LDN isn't the nearest transmitter to Nottingham!

I don't know which one is, but it's deffo supposed to be Midlands Today which goes out if something goes wrong...

Yeah, the point is that if EMT doesn't opt out due to a problem at the studio, then if it's the RBS system (ReBroadcast Standby) wouldn't come into play and network would still be transmitted, and that's carrying LDN as the sustaining feed.
