I'm aware this might be considered a very stupid idea, BUT... why not just use the slug? Small, unobtrusive but still informative. And you could listen to the music in full, unabridged, un-blabbed over.

"Unobstrusive" would never do - it's there to be seen - prominently!

Talking of which switching channels for a minute, but the one C4 use occassionally at the bottom of the screen annoys me - not the slug itself, but how they squeeze the picture rather than just lay it over the top.

Audio Desciption is for things like describing the physical actions within a narrative plot, etc. Not for things like telling you what's on next/later etc. That's the job of "continuity announcements".

Only in the fixed world according to 'Inflatable Dartboard'. Braodcasters can do whatever they want with AD.

I always used to like the design used by Film Four (I don't know if they still do it) where the ECP was the bottom half of the screen and the credits scrolled upwards as normal, without any squeezing. It means you don't miss any of the credits, and they don't look odd if there is no ECP used.

Is AD not recorded onto the program? If they were to record annos onto it, it would mean it couldn't be repeated or would have to be re-edited. So it's prob cheaper and easier to let the CAs do it live.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility to use the AD track live, but would require a fair bit of re-engineering to make it happen: at present in the Broadcast Centre it's only set up to work with pre-recorded material.

Quote:
Most importantly, the "quarter-screen" end credits will be phased out, with credits once again being large enough for viewers can read them. The precise format has yet to be decided, but may well mean that the credits will fill at least half the screen.
End credit information will also be posted on programmes' individual pages on the BBC website.

Already being discussed in the Poins Of View thread... although maybe this does deserve a thread of its own?

Just out of interest why do people care if credits are squeezed?

99% of the population don't read them anyway.

I don't care who done the make up on Eastenders.

Sometimes a programme is so good you like to see who played what role or find out about a piece of music. I just hate the fact that the credits have to follow certain rules meaning that comedies can't do funny scenes over the end of them.

For reference I've moved the ECP related posts out of the PoV thread and into this one. That way the conversation is kept together, and I suspect if it doesn't have its own thread someone else will create one later when they spot the changes.
