They're going to phase out the current ECPs.. (on Points of View now). I'm going to upload that segment on YouTube.

I'm interested to know what form the new credits will take? Can we just go back to old style credits now?

I love how guilty the credit squeeze inventor looks right at the start when he names her.

Thank goodness for that.

I don't object to ECPs existing at all, it's just this particular design that sucks.

Having the full-frame credits shrink away into a quarter(or less)-screen box seems a bit weird. Most other channels put the credits to one side, which = about half the screen, rather than a mere quarter. The current BBC ECP design is way too much shrinkage.

Also, there's seemingly always a slight "jump" that foreshadows the start of the ECP by about half-a-second. So, it's never a smooth start to the ECP, which makes it look amateur-ish.

And the rectangular panel to the right of the shrunk-credits often has absolutely no text or anything in it, making it seem like such a pointless waste of screen space.

And the top box is such an uber-widescreen shape. So, if a photo promoting one specific programme is put in that box, it has to be cropped-to-b*ggery.

All in all, there's nothing good about the design. How it ever got approved, I can't imagine. Absolute pish.

Although I agree completely, the reason is to do with the technology which could be upgraded to make it all smooth and 'nice', but it'd be seen as a pointless waste of money.

I'm glad about that. It was an awful ECP design and as has been mentioned, far too much space was wasted. The old half-screen ECP was much better.

Note that they didn't say anything about intrusive announcements over the end of programmes on PoV

We used to have the 'jump' you refer to in between each junction on BBC 1 Scotland on analogue. It used to annoy the hell out of me Laughing

Haven't seen it on digital, so I don't know if it was just an analogue problem, or if they've eventually sorted it.

I'm not convinced. As usual, a BBC employee wasn't able to admit they'd made a mistake and then pledged some changes which I'm betting will be half-arsed. She's clearly being paid to do a job that isn't necessary.

Admittedly, there are some BBC employees who's heads aren't up there own arses and are able to take criticism well and use it to their advantage. They're hard to find though.

In fairness there was never going to be an admission of it being a mistake, otherwise it throws out all their original "research" to justify the current design.

It's a blatant U-turn but at least the end result will hopefully be something where ECPs and credits can co-exist nicely (bit like they used to).

If anyone in marketing needs a design, how about something like this?

Although credits were sometimes still illegible even then. Nothing said about a relaxation in the duration of credits or a timescale for when the current design will die either. Confused
