I mentioned this in the Soham thread, but thought if you hadn't looked through that one, I'd mention it again in it's own thread.

BBC East's "Look East" programme tonight is extended to 1 hour following today's news about Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr.

The interesting thing is what they're going to do about opting back into network at 7.30, as the 7pm programme is one hour long ("Diet Trials"). After a briefish look on the net, I cannot find any confirmation of what BBC One East's schedule is going to look like tonight - DigiGuide and the BBC's own "Full Channel Schedule" listings still have the usual 1/2 hour opt out.

Presumably they're going to fill with something ... and actually opt back for the 8pm programme "Inovation Nation".

Anyone know?

Nope... and the Sky EPG hasn't updated. Mind you, it didn't show the regional opt outs across the North of England last week either...

Yes BBC East / Look East have done an opt-out, I don't quite know what will happen at 7:30pm though.

The two East regions have been mainly carrying the same special programme from Soham, but did split for local news just after 7pm for about 5 minutes. Neither sub-region returned to London for the National headlines at 6.58pm.

The programme has been very interesting and well produced so far. Still not sure what'll happen at 7.30pm though !

I've got BBC East and they are showing a programme called "The Island".

Yes - regional continuity over a BBC ONE East symbol too. It's an interesting looking programme called "The Island" about the history of Orford Ness. Presumably a BBC East "Home Ground" programme or something dug out from the archive ?

"This is BBC East. Due to the extended coverage on Look East, there are changes to the schedule this evening. Now, The Island."

(or words to that effect).

More regional continuity please.

This was shown on BBC Four a week or two ago and is about the history of Orfordness in Suffolk (the MOD used to be based there). I wonder if it will ever get shown on BBC1/2 Network?

Oh, interesting! Maybe BBC East specifically requested it to be standing by for when the verdict was announced. I expect they've had plans for this special opt for a while.

It's great that the BBC are doing more of this regional programming. Especially when ITV are cutting back shamelessly on their regional output and closing regional production centres and losing jobs.

BBC West did a one-hour Points West recenty following the last landing at Heathrow of Concorde, then we've had the recent Midlands and Northern opts too.

And another regional continuity announcement over a BBC ONE East "Tai Chi " ident after "The Island" explaining the loss of Diet Trials, and pointing to "Innovation Nation" starting shortly ... that was held for a few seonds before network was rejoined for that awful BBCi trail with Jensen Button (is that right? Not an F1 fan I'm afraid!)

Well done BBC East - excellent regional programme and continuity (even if they did refer to the channel as "One East" ... tut tut tut ... ! Smile

God yeah that Jenson button promo - awful. What charisma!

I was very impressed with Look East tonight. They really ought to be proud of how good they have become.

We even got a view of the nice new BBC East ticker

I'm sure you could have guessed how it looked, but why not show you...

I'd seen the Orfordness programme on BBC Four a few weeks ago, partly because I live closeby and its a pretty freaky place. While it won't have had the mass appeal of diet whatever, I thought it was good to get a programme like this on without it being condensed into a ten minute piece for Inside Out.

Absolutely - it's the kind of programme that the English Regions used to make regularly for their slots on BBC TWO. They seem to be a bit thin on the ground now though.

I agree that Look East's programmes today have been exceptionally good.
