Only 6 episodes?

Yeah, having less episodes of some of their best shows due to forced budget cuts is part of plans to ensure the BBC are delivering quality first.

...

Sad

Nope - that's Putting Quality First (the previous round of cost savings)

Delivering Quality First hasn't started in anger yet (though the F1 contract was an early announcement) DQF savings are due to be announced reasonably soon.

What a stunning final episode. Wont spoil it for others on here who havent seen it but...

What a twist the return of Tom was... spin off series in the pipeline maybe? Loved the fact that (if I'm getting this right) Harry had called him to assassinate the Russian, and the final scene where Harry gets a telephone call at his desk was confirmation Tom had done this? I guess its open to interpretation.

Also, the end to Ruth and Harry was beautifully written, whilst I'm gutted they couldnt go and live happily ever after, it was quite fitting. I note that Harry went back to work too, leaving it quite open for a future return?!

There seems to be an increasingly popular notion that DQF actually stands for,

Wasn't it the Home Secretary who hired Tom? He makes some comment about 'we've handed the [Russian Guy] case to an outside contractor' and then there's Tom turning up. The end, to me, was just signifying Harry was never going to leave this job because it had stripped him back to the point he has nothing else. And the point of Tom's cameo - as I saw it - was to say that even the ones who get away end up trapped in this world (Tom having left MI5 over the morality of the job, now an apparent assassin).

I'm sure he (the HS) said "I hear you've handed..." etc, asked for the details, and then decided he didn't want to know after all. Did Tom know Ruth? That'd make him more willing to get his hands dirty for Harry.

Yes, I think it was the case that Harry 'handed' the case to Tom. I'm a huge Spooks fan, and for me the ending was very poignant, particuarly Ruth's name on the memorial. However one part of me wishes that Ruth's death had been the final scene. I think it would have been a more shocking and emotional conclusion, given the fact that so much of the series has been about the Harry/Ruth relationship. The last few scenes felt like the tying up of loose ends, and therefore made Ruth's death feel like a bit of an anticlimax. At least that's how I felt.

Nevertheless, this is a show I will hugely miss. One of the best things on British television in the last decade.

Correct, my mistake.
