Oh, I like them. Much better than before. The next BBC News graphics redesign may now be 16:9 safe with only the clock in the 4:3 safe area. I was wondering when the switch would happen on the channels.

Very unlikely. And why only the clock in the 4:3 safe area?

During the pre-2008 graphics, the clock was placed in the 16:9 area, with many people complaining about it, before the moved it into they 4:3 area.

Indeed, which it what makes it odd to suggest that everything apart from the clock is moved to 16:9 safe.

I am sure they could position the graphics around the 16:9 safe areas and then place the clock (so it still doesn't look out of place) in the 4:3 safe areas.

But why?

If everything else is only visible (properly) on a 16:9 screen, what difference does it make where the clock is? If people complain about the graphics not being 4:3 safe, the clock location will not figure very high in the list.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from and looking back my idea does seem flawed. I will be quiet now . Smile

I think it would have made more sense for a BBC Four stacked dog to match the logo, and also to keep it neatly in the 16:9 area.

Isn't the implication more to return to the original design of the 2007 revamp where although the main graphics were 4:3 safe the less important graphics (e.g. the clock) were outside this.

The DOGs on BBC One and BBC Two online have also moved outside the 4:3 area.

It can't just be me who's noticed that although they've moved to the 16:9 safe area, they've also gotten bigger? Unnecessary move really, it's nice they've moved, but I'd have preferred them to stay the size they were, even if that means having them in the 4:3 safe area.

I don't think they've got bigger, however they do seem to be placed slightly lower down from the top of the screen.

Indeed, I compared the 4:3 position with the 16:9 position of the BBC3 DOG, its exactly the same size.

Fair enough, just seemed bigger to me when I turned on BBC Four last night.
