Basically the DOG's are now 16:9 safe instead of 4:3 safe. (Finally!) Maybe you need to check your TV/Digibox settings to make sure its set to widescreen?

If I do that then black lines show up the top and along the bottom. Me thinks it's time I get a new TV?
Changed the TV setting so it displays fine, but now the EPG of my Freeview box doesn't show properly were I've changed to 'auto' on the TV?

You might want to scheck your setting on your Freeview box too, there's usually a setting for 4:3 and 16:9 (and sometimes 14:9).

Here's hoping. Would it kill them to decolourise BBC Three's while they're on it?
Possibly in danger of speaking too soon but it does seem that at last broadcasters are taking a sensible approach to DOGs, ie decreasing sizes, removing colour/increasing transparency, placing them outside the safe area. In recent years it has felt as though they assumed viewers were tuning in solely to gawp at the flamboyancy of their on screen logos.
Still would prefer if they weren't there at all of course, but this is a fair enough compromise.
Does this mean BBC Three and Four's will be like this later on tonight?

Oh, I like them. Much better than before. The next BBC News graphics redesign may now be 16:9 safe with only the clock in the 4:3 safe area. I was wondering when the switch would happen on the channels.

Very unlikely. And why only the clock in the 4:3 safe area?

During the pre-2008 graphics, the clock was placed in the 16:9 area, with many people complaining about it, before the moved it into they 4:3 area.
