Mr Me
I know at the moment with all this extra news about, the daytime summaries are barely being noticed (though last night their look was used during the updates on primetime BBC 1) but there was a story at the forum over the summer that said they were going to be relaunched to be more 'pacier'. Does anyone know if this true and when we can expect it to happen?

It also emerged at the time that the new 10 o'clock news editor, Mark Popescu was toying with similar ideas for that bulletin, to include more on screen text and graphics, I suppose similar to the World Today and 60 seconds. Does anyone know anything more about this?? What about Buerk/Sissons? I personnally like the idea of the 10 having 2 presenters - what about Fiona Bruce and George Alagiah?

Yeah, they need to be more like BBC World News in terms of style of presentation, develop further astons fron The World Today, create extra idents for Sport and create proper ending titles as well, and at the start, be a little bit like The World Today!

The BBC's main bulletin had two presenters in the early 70s, then went back to one.

Then in 1986, it went back to two, until 1988.

So it's about time they went back to two.

It comes and goes in cycles.

There have definitely been more adventurous graphics over the last few months on all the BBC's bulletins.

I find the constant captions on Sky News and News 24 distracting. They divert attention from what's actually being said. I hope that the normal bulletins do not go down that path.

The trend seems to be towards single presenters; the Six O'Clock News went from two to one in 1999, and Newsroom South East and South East Today are single-headers; although Reporting Scotland has gone in the other direction.

I think to have two presenters on a national news bulletin is unnecessary and superfluois; on the other hand on a regional news programme where the atmosphere is perhaps a little lighter, I think a two presenter format is more appropriate.

I very much agree.

Except in the case of Crap 24, they need two presenters, or no one would watch them!

I think it's different for rolling news services, you need 2 anchors really to relieve the burden sometimes.

I disagree with the fact that regional news needs two presenters. North West Tonight has never had two presenters, and it is the best regional news programme as far as I've seen (and I've seen quite a number of regions). Its not too serious and not over the top with banter. Gordon Burns does a great job on his own accompanied by the sport presenter, Sally Newgent and the weather by Dianne Oxberry (and Heather Stott). I couldn't think of a better presenter for NWT, Gordon is really suited to the programme and I hope he doesn't leave for a long time!! Having said that, Martin Henfield is excellent too.

In the case of North West Tonight and of course the Lunchtime Look North, there is kind of 2 presenters, Because the weather presenter gets a big role.

Most weather presenters just read the weather forecast!, they don't come and sit at the presenters desk, and they don't read viewers e-mails!

It's not true that NWT has *never* had two presenters - up until 1993ish - when Philip Hayton joined the show - it was always hosted by two people...
