The Grange Hill theme is a decisive issue... I have to agree that the old theme on the classic repeats sounding quite odd to the off-its-time more serious 90s theme, but then it seems to be you prefer the version you grew up with. Even then they chopped it down to about 20 seconds by the end and added a number of sound effects over the top.

First ITV and now the Beeb too... bit of a shame, remembering getting up early on saturday mornings for the kids' shows. Sad

Looks like Blue Peter is back up to two episodes a week through to the Olympics with an extra editions at 9am on Saturdays on CBBC/BBC2 from 26th May covering the torch relay.

When they went down to once a week they said there'd be various spin-offs, and that's what we've had, because they've done a nine-part series of Helen in the South Pole and these shows are going to be live Saturday morning roadshows like the Swaporama with features and live bands and that.

They also did a schools programme about stargazing they show in the Learning Zone, because my TiVo keeps recording it for me.

As for Byker, wasn't it more the case that the production company behind it (Zenith) went under?
No. Zenith went under because Byker Grove and CD:UK got cancelled at around the same time.

ITV still do kids shows on weekend mornings, albeit in during ITV Breakfast hours. So in that respect, itv come out trumps.

What was wrong with Switch?....
...I still think an unbranded BBC2/3 slot is the way to go for this demographic, focus on the content, not on the pandering.

BINGO.

I think any attempt at a "strand 4 teenz" becomes utterly patronising and unappealing. The key is, that target audience don't want pandering to! By all means show vampire dramas with young American hotties in it if that's what appeals to teens; just don't surround it with presentation that says "hey kiddies, you're allowed to watch this, 'cos the BBC have deemed it teen safe!"

That's the point I was getting at - what CITV shows aren't ITV Studio productions, but the back catalogue of what was made before the department was closed and plans to close the studios were scrapped. Anything since new are independent productions. Shame really but there we go.

I think that when CITV on ITV1 ended & My Parents are Aliens finished with the closure of Granada Kids, I think ITV did stop making or commissioning anything for CITV.

It's only in recent years they started commissioning new stuff, so technically both viewpoints are correct.

I hope Tony Gardner gets repeat fees, as even if he got £1 per episode, he'd be a millionaire by now

I think I'm right in saying CBBC has re-inherited the 12+ bracket. There was a bizarre, jarringly scheduled drama I flicked onto around Christmas last year ( Postcode ?) plonked at 4.30ish on CBBC One, which was clearly skewed towards a young BBC3-type audience.

I recall that one being heavilly advertised either on BBC1 or Radio 1, it did seem to be the sort of proper heavy drama that would have aired at 5:10pm in the old days (at least from the trailers).

Something I used to catch the end of sometimes before Something for the Weekend was Friday Download which seems to be a decently made programme. Due to BBC cuts neither will shortly be a fixture of BBC2 Sunday mornings.

At the end of this week's Blue Peter, when they were talking about the Olympic Tour series starting this weekend, they said it was going to be on the CBBC channel, and made no reference to it being on BBC2 at the same time.

When they showed Helen's Polar Challenge series, the first broadcast was only on BBC2. I guess they're trying to get more of the audience to watch on the CBBC channel now, in order to justify the removal of CBBC from BBC1 & 2.
