Well there will be a new Christmas ident on BBC1.

Let's hope to Christ it's better than last year's awful effort.

I'd actually completely forgotten about that. I thought last year was the 2011 cheese-fest.

Will we have personalised messages again this year?

I would have been very surprised if there wasn't new BBC1 Christmas idents this year, as I cannot remember the last time that happened on BBC1, but let's hope they're up to their usual high standards, unlike last year's pitiful effort.

The problem with last years for me was that it didn't come across as 'Christmas'. At least the cheese fest (as it was called above) was littered with bells in the music, lots of Christmas imagery and a lovely happy atmosphere.

Here's hoping that there's something back to basics with this years.

ITV trumped BBC One last year when it came to Christmas idents - and ITV have only been bothering with Christmas idents for the last four years or so.

Yes, neither the visuals nor the soundtracks of last year's had any kind of Christmas feel to it, unlike, say (my favourite from this ident era), Snowball (2006/2007), which really had a Christmassy feel, just by hearing it, alone.

And based on last year we're probably only a couple of weeks from ITV's Christmas idents debuting, though I expect they'll be in the standard style so in some way they might not even get noticed.

I hope the BBC reverse the policy of the last two years of putting a bigger budget into the promo for Christmas rather than the idents. The promo dates almost immediately and then we have to put up with sub-standard idents for the following three weeks.

could the promos be similar to the love campaign? ie love 2013 and spring!
we maybe seeing love Christmas!?

Oh God I hadn't even thought of that. Let's hope not.

Fingers crossed that that doesn't happen. They didn't have a love autumn, so hopefully that's faded away.
