Somerset House is used on New Years Eve on BBC One for their end of year finale show, so maybe that's why it wasn't used as it'd look like too much.


Also it is only a seasonal rink. Not sure how long it takes to animate all those penguins but I would have thought that they wouldn't have been able to film at Somerset house in time to produce the ident. An indoor rink is probably easier to light too.


What's being done is actually quite complex, so the simpler it was the better, To get CGI 'interacting' with humans (by this I mean skating in-front and behind of) would take quite some time.

Whilst blue ice lights etc. would have added, perhaps they didn't want to go too overboard on the fakeness. Then again it probably was filmed back in October!

As good as this ident, is I wish it could have had a night time/arctic feel to it. But it's still a great Christmas ident.

I think tred in the centre and also the music (with the little variation of the BBC One jingle thing) make the ident great.
I liked the ay the announcer commented on the ident.

It's only when you see it on the TV that you realise how much detail is in it. They even have penguins scattered around the seats in the ice rink. Really good!!

In an attempt to pre-empt the forthcoming gnashing of teeth and repetitively dull moaning about how early BBC One's Christmas ident is being debuted, I'd here and now like to let you know that it will debut on...

Seriously, I know this is a TV Forum, but the banality of having this same discussion on the same weekend every year... YAWN
