What is it with TV shops? The amount of times I've pointed that out to them...

In town this morning browsing at all those lovely HDTVs and snowball crops up on screen - with absolutely all of them set to the wrong ration resulting in a perfect oval!

I can believe that too.

Put it this way, it's in their interests really that they show a widescreen TV set up correctly. Because they very often don't, many people still think that all a widescreen TV does is stretch the picture.
Mind you, the manufacturers of many set-top boxes are equally at fault. When you get the boxes home and set them up for the first time, the default picture setting is often 4:3 centre cutout, when it ought to be 16:9 anamorphic.

I think this is because the people in such shops can actually be less than so-called '
Supertronic Experts
' - often some are technophobic and need help from their local technical assistant to set up a toaster.
It's a ridiculous problem. However, if the screens had been configured correctly, I imagine Snowball would look stunning on them.

Presumably because there was no full trail available, a traditional programme slide was used these past few days to promote the documentary about David Cameron - hence, we got to see a festive version of a usually infrequent device - very nice indeed.

An update on Christmas pres across the BBC:
CBeebies : the DOG has now been given festive enhancement. However when I watched the closedown tonight, it was just the usual lullaby "The Time Has Come To Say Goodnight" sung by Chris Jarvis, not a Christmas song.
Does anyone know if they're doing a Christmas song this year. This is what they came up with the last two years:
2005: "It's A Magical Time Of The Year" - a pleasant song, kinda like a Christmas carol.
2006: "Happy Christmas From All Of Us To All Of You" - much more upbeat, an ABBAesque Eurovision style song. It's here on You Tube.
Time then for a quick channel change to BBC Four.
BBC Four : saw the opening just before 7pm. I saw the snow scene ident from the last two Christmasses. So at last BBC Four are now showing there festive ident, albeit recycled from the last two years. Couldn't they have designed a new festive "four pane style" ident?
