Mmmm, maybe it's a nice abstact look at things, but it doesn't feel very festive. Bit of a clique perhaps, but outside with a dark starry sky, some more sparkliness perhaps?

I do feel that the circle is a bit weak in this - If the border of it was more definite, then it would look a lot better.

I've yet to hear the soundtrack, but when I do, I will let you know my thoughts. I'm sure you can hardly wait. Woopah.

So visually I'll give it 6/10.

I'm pleasantly suprised by the new Christmas ident. It's fun, unusual and kind-of Christmasy. I'm especially liking the festive soundtrack. It'll be good to see how it comes across on TV tomorrow evening. I hope they use last years "Snowball" ident too, so not to be so repetitive like past years.

I really like the ident. it's better than last year but it's not that christmasy.

i think the should do varirations of that ident.

This is a wonderful and playful ident. When it comes on all the children will go, ooh penguins, ooh it's christmas! I think it will look even better on screen.

I hope they do bring back snowball, despite many people hating it, it fits in with the abstract theme. Even the normal BBC one idents are going very abstract.

It's bloody awful.

I think that this years Christmas ident is excellent, so creative.
Can't wait to see this on screen.

And wouldn't it have been better using an outdoor ice rink?
I think you've hit the nail on the head - the concept and the execution are great, but you can't escape from the fact that it's lit like an indoor ice rink. I suppose the problem is that there aren't many outdoor ice rinks set up in early Autumn!

As you said though, it's lit like an indoor ice rink, they could have set up their own lighting rig to make it seem darker.

It's quite christmassy with the music. Is this starting tonight?

Technically, for a BBC ident, it's very good. However, there is hardly anything Christmassy about it. They could have had fake snow fluttering down from the ceiling.

Look carefully. Apart from the obvious Christmas tree in the middle, there are also lights around the site of the link, and festive garlands overhead.

Similar charges were laid against Snowball last year (ie. that it was not obviously Christmassy).

I was thinking that somewhere like Somerset House would have been a nice setting - but you're right, even some better indoor lighting would have done the trick.

Still, it may just be RealVideo doing strange things to it. Maybe it'll look better on the telly!

Don't like the whole thing, but the outdoor rink on Princes Street in Edinburgh would have been a much better choice of location.
