So why not instead try the 1997 approach of a common theme, but several different idents on that theme?
I was most surprised this was never tried again - there was BBC1 with 47 different idents for 362 days of the year, but back to just one for the other three.

BBC One's technically looks great, is very upbeat and obviously has had a lot of effort has gone into it but it just doesn't seem festive enough - I want clichés at Christmas!! Father Christmas, starry nights, snowflakes, real Christmas tree etc..!.
Is that not a Christmas tree of sorts in the middle of the ice rink?

Ooh it's Paper Cutout 2007!
Not quite, was there actually any cutting back then?
The idea of cutting paper is quite clever, who hasn't made snowflakes or paperchains before?

There are lots of repetative conversations on TVF, you just have to grit your teeth and ignore them!
FWIW of course the start of the Xmas Pres won't get earlier and earlier, once Xmas day gets later in the week they'll move it later, just like the Radio Times does

In an attempt to pre-empt the forthcoming gnashing of teeth and repetitively dull moaning about how early BBC One's Christmas ident is being debuted, I'd here and now like to let you know that it will debut on...
Saturday 13th December 2008
Saturday 12th December 2009
Saturday 11th December 2010
etc. etc. etc.
Seriously, I know this is a TV Forum, but the banality of having this same discussion on the same weekend every year... YAWN

Hmm - looks like BBC2's symbols this year well exceed 30 seconds of audio, but unfortunately and weirdly the animation itself does not - it ends at dead-on 30" and remains frozen on the last frame - all while the music continues on, like it was intended for a longer ident...
Perhaps not a huge deal, but I find it strange and unlikely that the composer and animator(s) would not check these things, or have some difficulty producing works of complimentary same length; as the result ends up looking a bit strange and not altogether thought out - almost as if it is out-of-sync.
Some of BBC1's regular Circles of course are vice-versa - if left to run, the video continues in silence well after the music has ended. It can't be that hard to get right, can it?

Well, are they a "natural" freeze (best example I can think of is Channel 4's original ident) where everything's come to rest before it freezes, or is it something like Seascape where it'll never come to rest and so it's horridly obvious that it's not right?

Was that the BBC1 Christmas Ident I saw last night?
Is that a joke? Sums up what I thought of it. Probably one the worst BBC1 idents I have ever seen.
