I had heard that the opts were being dropped, and then heard that there was regional involvement.

It is a real shame if they are all pre-recorded... Truly the end of an era of regional telly. Let's hope this isn't a permanent change and they learn the error of their ways.

CiN is just not going to be the same without shivering scouts and brownies handing over large cheques on-air to surprised regional news presenters, who didn't think they were going to be on that soon...

I agree, the regional opt-outs were the best bits. I hope this year's Children in Need is better than last year's, which just seemed to be a succession of performances by rubbish pop acts.

They are, who can beat good old Nigel Jay with his Pudsey hairband on (!) and Heather Stott? The two were excellent. Nigel had loads of kids on the phones in the NWT newsroom, and he was excellent with them! He seems like a really nice chap in real life.

Which news presenters will be involved? I'll be setting the tape between 9.30 and 10.00!!

I enjoyed the opt-outs from the West. Susan Osman sang 'I will survive' very badly, and we had lots of little thing from all over the region.

Last year, I was suprised that the East Midlands made more than the north. Was there very little publicity or something.

ON the advert I only saw Michael Burke, Jeremy Bowen and Jenny Bond dancing! I would love to see ALL the BBC's news presenters doing something!

Darren Jordon's on that trail as well, so perhaps they all are. Looks like a spoof of the Fatboy Slim video to me.

What was more funny was watching, half way thru the song, Vach and Garmers with their fingers in their ears Smile

I don't think the regional thing with CIN is going to be perminant, I think it's just a rest for a year. The whole CIN thing can be a bit of a strain ...

Especially last year ... I did enjoy listening to network talkback ...

'Opt in two minutes, regions two mintes ... No NO! THREE ... TWO ... ONE ... go go go go!'

I laughed ...

Mind you, I wasn't in the gallery Smile

Well I don't know what listings magazine you read, but that isn't in the Radio Times.

Not sure about the nations (Wales, Scootland, NI) but the normal system of opt-outs is being rested this year

And it's going to be on interactive services:

From Digital Spy

BBC Children in Need is to be interactive this year for the first time in its history, with additional services operating across all three digital platforms..

The telthon, which airs on BBC1 from 7pm on Friday, will be interactive through BBCi, the BBC's recently-launched portal for interactive content.

Digital Cable: DCab viewers have access to pages of content about BBC Children in Need, including Webcams from the three BBC Children in Need pop concerts being held in Doncaster, Leicester and Portsmouth. They will also be able to donate money through their television set by filling in the credit / debit card form.

Digital Satellite: DSat viewers can also donate money through their television set. Once the red button is pressed the screen shrinks to quarter size and viewers are taken step-by step through a simple process that allows them to make a donation by using their debit or credit card.

The ability to donate money through the digital satellite platform has been developed in conjunction with Sky Interactive's guidance with the return path.

Lesley MacKenzie, Sky's Director of Channels and Operations said 'We are excited that the expertise of the Sky Interactive team and the power of digital satellite technology can be used so effectively to make a tangible contribution to Children In Need - one of the nation's most established charitable events.'

Digital Terrestrial: DTT viewers will have access to a special Children in
Need section of digital text. The service provides all the latest news stories from the charity, as well as details of how to donate. Viewers with ITV Active will also be able to donate to the charity using web on TV.

'This is the second BBCi service since its launch earlier in the month, and is what BBCi is all about' said Scott Gronmark, Head of BBC Interactive TV. 'Not only does it allow viewers to interact with the BBC, it also makes it considerably easier to contribute to BBC Children in Need, and that has to be good news for everyone.'

And it looks like Cable viewers will get more than Sky viewers! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
