Hello everyone. I've discovered this just now - there isn't eight BBC Channels, there is in fact 19! As well at the 8 that we are told about here in the UK:

BBC One
BBC Two
BBC Three
BBC Four
CBBC
CBeebies
BBC News 24
BBC Parliament

There's also 7 more channels, available internationally:
BBC World
BBC America
BBC Japan
BBC Canada
BBC Prime
BBC Kids
BBC Food

And 4 others randomly scrambled here and there accross the globe
BBC Knowledge
BBC Choice
BBC World Service Television
BBC TV Europe

So actually there is nineteen, not eight. Surely putting all those other nice channels out on Freeview at least would do them some good!

Or shockingly enough, you could say they have well in excess of 23 channels, as whilst these last four channel companies aren't directly owned by the BBC, follow the ladder right up to the top, and there they is the BBC:
Animal Planet
People+Arts
UKTV (All of them)
UK.TV (In Australia And New Zealand)

The TV Forum FAQ Page explains why you can't get the international channels in the UK.

Also, BBC Choice and BBC Knowledge were replaced by BBC Three and BBC Four respectively.

I knew about them, and I'm not too dismayed that we don't recieve them, because we'd be probably paying for them (they actually have ads) and the licence fee would be higher most likely.

I would say most of us here knew about these channels -- this is TV Forum after all; I'd be surprised if anyone here didn't know all of the aforementioned BBC services existed!

The frontend of BBC PRIME is pretty snazzy in its recent incarnation with a couple of (literally) colourful British references, but I'm torn between two eras; that simple black/white reflected sphere was pretty striking. I quite like the vibrant colours used in the branding (no surprise that I'm liking the current on-screen Radio 4 Promotions!), but I get the feeling that's not very trendy of me...

I didn't think much of their take on the LZ though. Nevertheless I wouldn't object to a BBC Channel here adopting the main style.

WIth all of those channels, they could easily begin a small but successful freeview style service. Now I know its not that simple as to where all of the channels broadcast but you can see the main thing I'm getting at.

Are BBC World and BBC World Service Television not the same thing?

AAAH!!! SO UK.TV is Australia/ New Zealand. I downloaded some torrents of later goodnight sweetheart episodes and they were recorded from UK.TV they were PAL so I had my mind tuned into them being from regions down under but could'nt be sure, but thats confirmed it.. Good educated guess of mine before tho
Very Happy

Yes. BBC World Service Television was the previous name, it adopted the new name some time ago.

There are more channels that the BBC have relations to but do not owe them, i.e. they provide programming for them, I remember seeing DOGs saying BBC Exclusif or something like that. The only one I remember is People+Arts in Spain's Digital+, oh, and BFBS...but as do all British channels.

And if you are being really picky which seems what the original poster is, there is BBC World India...

Have known of them since 2002 since I stayed in a hotel with BBC Prime and BBC World. In total there are 15 channels as BBC Choice, BBC Knowledge, BBC TV Europe and BBC World Service Television are now defunct. What you seem to have done is counted up all the channels mentioned in a Wikipedia infobox. There are also the countless joint venture UKTV channels/

Why do we have to pay for TV services we don't even get here? Oh wait...does the license fee only go to UK shows? Because I remember being in America and there were adverts during BBC America/World shows. Still, they get to see shows like Eastenders, which in a way we pay for.
