This fall in Canada, the BBC (along with Alliance Atlantis - production company) will launch BBC Canada and BBC Kids. I dunno what's goin to happen to BBC World on the cable companies => No BBC World in the states because of BBC America.
BBC World is a news channel. The Alliance Atlantis services will be entertainment-based. No conflict.

It's interesting though, because whenever I watch BBC World there are regular promotions for programmes like People's Century (which, I might add, I am missing for the next two weeks cos I'm on holiday in the UK! GRRRARGH!), there's always a tiny caption squashed beneath the promotion end board: 'Except Canada - The Road to War'...BBC World don't show Australia Direct and this horrid holiday programme (no big losses, I'm sure) either, though there must be some kind of programming restrictions up there.
On the subject of BBC Canada and BBC Kids...somebody had better have a TV-Card up and along there!

Someone in this forum (I think Alek or something like that) said that they couldn't get BBC World in the U.S..

I'm not sure if BBC Canada or BBC Kids will come out in my area (Edmonton, Alberta) this fall. Stickguy might know if/when it will start broadcasting across Canada, or only in Ontario or whatever. If it does come out here, I'll TRY to snatch a screenshot or RealVideo.
D'ya think there'll be Canadian versions of the BBC balloon? I do hope I'll get it in Vancouver. And just like EDTV, I'll try to capture if I do get the channel. (Not trying to compete against you)
I also hope I'll be able to get BBC Canada AND keep BBC World. Any chance of that happening?

My guess is that idents etc. will use the same theme as BBC America: various uses of the Union Jack. There are some examples of this @ http://www.thetvroom.com/p-bbc-america-06-2001.htm (no video, just scanned posters).
As for why BBC World isn't allowed in the U.S., I don't think any foreign services (aside from Canadian/Mexican stations received OTA) are allowed there. In the same vein, foreign-controlled services probably aren't allowed (BBC America is technically owned by Discovery, for example).

I don't think it's the fact that we Americans can't get World, but that no one wants to carry it or the BBC doesn't want to show it in America. There may be conflicts with BBC World News on BBC America and across the country on several PBS stations. But that's just my own speculation. I haven't heard of that no-foreign owned stations allowed in the US thing, but I'd believe it…
What is this 'MSNBC Canda' -- I heard that they were planning to launch it a while ago, but I haven't heard about it for a while.
Will it be Canada's own version of MSNBC, or will it just be a simulcast of MSNBC(US).
God I hope this might mean (though I doubt it) a relaunch for MSNBC(US) -- they're really bad now…

So, that means that (let's say) Buffalo NY can get CHCH if the signal is strong enough, yet CBC Newsworld isn't allowed on the Cable systems there?
As for the BBC America idents - GAAAHHHH! That has to be the most degrading use of the Union Jack I have ever seen in my life. Especially that woman with the tongue. Ugh! I hope BBC Canada uses the balloons.

MSNBC Canada, as I understand it, should be
mostly
a simulcast of MSNBC (U.S.). But I can't find a schedule.
And in case you're wondering, you can find CBLT and CFTO on certain cablesystems in Buffalo, and perhaps maybe even CHCH is some parts of the area. But not CBC Newsworld. (I forgot that there is Newsworld International, which was only recently sold to the Americans, which might mean that I was wrong about that foreign ownership thing. That said, I don't think even NWI is available in Buffalo...)

AFAIK in the US there are only restrictions to the ownership by foreigners of local stations - a percentage limit. I think that is one of the reasons Murdoch change its autralian citizenship to the US , even though News Corporation is an Australian company.
