What a waste of money - basically paying for a substandard re-filmed version of a over-hyped comedy they've already shown.

The BBC have also been criticised for spending £1.5m on US drama Triangle - a six part drama based on events around the Bermuda Triangle. They are said to have bid twice the amount of any other broadcaster.

The BBC also bid for the rights to Desperate Housewives - not sure where they would have scheduled that, but it would not have got upto 5m viewers.

God, does every single thread have to be splashed with you harping on about how the licence fee is wasted on absolutely everything? Fúck's sake - we know you hate the BBC, so change the sodding record or just shut the hell up.

I made a completly valid point which has been raised in the media this week and is pretty high on the news agenda considering the renewal of the BBC charter.

People here know my opinion - and that's exactly what is was - MY OPINION.

It be nice to hear your opinion on this issue - rather than an attack not so much on my opinion, but on me for expressing my opinion.

You got it in one there - people know exactly what your opinion will be without you saying it. Everything the BBC does is crap, every penny spent by the BBC an appalling waste of money.

You said it yourself - "people here know my opinion". So I stand by my assertion that if you've got nothing else to add to your commonly-known viewpoint that the BBC can do no right, much less spend the licence fee wisely, I see no merit to you wasting bandwidth on reiterating the same points again.

And if you'd care to engage your brain, you'd realise that I'm actually "attacking" you for the simple reason that your sole motivation in commenting on any BBC-related matter is to castigate the BBC's actions, almost entirely without exception, not merely because I find you to be a tiresome, dull, repetitive oaf.

And that, dear boy, is my opinion, and since you are clearly the champion of respecting the opinions of others regardless of how unreasonable they may seem to even a single person, I suggest you shut up and give my opinion the respect that you have defended so heartily.

As regards the issue being discussed in the thread, I think it's an excellent idea to buy the US version of The Office. Not everybody out there downloads videos from the US, and there is a great deal of "curiosity" to see just what a mess the Americans have made of it. Ricky Gervais has been singing its praises a lot over here though, and I think a lot of people will be looking forward to seeing how it compares. Since you obviously never liked The Office, I can't expect you to support the decision, but your belief that the American version of the show is a complete waste of money (implying that there simply wouldn't be any kind of demand for it over here) belies a staggering ignorance on your part.

I'm prepared to accept, for now, that your belief that it is a waste of money is nothing to do with the fact that you didn't like it, because I simply refuse to believe that anyone can be that arrogant.
