The loss of Neighbours surely played a part in All Saints' acquisition, though.

As a side note, today's Inside Soap implies that Doctors will continue to run through the summer this year. Several guest stars are planned including Hollyoaks' Marcus Patric.

Maybe Doctors will end up replacing Neighbours and get shown twice a day.

I personally feel that they are getting things in place for when Neighbours goes next year. Therefore trying new imported shows and see what works best. All Saints is starting from Series 5 which was shown in 2002.

As for Doctors, i guess an hour long every Friday would work but i think it would be too much every day.

All Saints is not the replacement for Neighbours, so doesnt need to fill anything. It can run Series 5, then take a break and show Afternoon Play, Murder She Wrote etc.

It would take longer than 3 years for ACP to be shown in full. Depends if they cut the episodes in half like most ITV regions did. It took HTV from about 1983 until 1998 to show ACP in full. Central were faster - they didnt start until about 1988 and I remember when visiting Central land seeing episodes that were shown years earlier on HTV. it only took Central 10 years to show it all - they even overtook HTV just before the end.

Anyway I cant see them showing an old Aussie soap from the 1980s/1990s as replacement for Neighbours. It will be something current.

"Commercial pressures" forced it into a slot where the channel shouldn't be on air anyway.

Given your interest in a variety of programming during the daytime, is it not a little hypocritical to suggest that channels should be forced to close down?

How about Blue Heelers - never really caught it when I lived in the NorthWest - although they did show a handful of episodes.

Isn't Blue Heelers still being made in Oz - I know that there were new episodes last time I was in Oz (Nov 05).

They could do....

135pm Gameshows
2pm Doctors (Mon, Wed, Fri) - rpt at 530pm
2pm River City (Tue, Thur) - rpt at 530pm
230pm Mon & Tue - Blue Heelers (from the beginning)
230pm Wed - Classic US crime drama series
230pm Thu & Fri - All Saints (from the beginning)

A lot of those shows are only weekly ones that haven't been around for too long, and some of them haven't even appeared yet.

The ABC has produced some really excellent drama but it seems to have moved towards more telemovie-type productions such as ******* Boys. Like I said, McLeod's is a possibility - it's not a soap, H&A and Neighbours are the only two Australian series that are really like that.

Always Greener was a quite popular show that was shown on Seven for a few series in 2001-2003 - it was quite good, and drew excellent ratings until they debuted it against Big Brother and 60 Minutes over the Easter weekend (not a good move). That has the potential to do quite well during the daytime - Seven were airing it at midday for a while last year.
