The first channels to go will be UKTV.

Anybody know if this will allow 16:9 transmission of UKTV?

There's nothing to stop them doing it now.... except for their library of thousands of tapes all of which contain programmes in 14:9/4:3 that would have to be re-bought/mastered

It's not in squeezovision.

It IS in squeezovision if I'm being deprived of one sixteenth off each side of the original picture, and then have to zoom it up to a viewable size, thus ending up with a definition of only 546 lines on my screen.

Exactally the same as I feel about CBBC/CITV. Though, there is less reason for it with them than there is for UKTV, as both CBBC and CITV are capapble of aspect ratio switches.

Apart from buying new transmission equipment- doesn't come cheap

They would have to buy very little, just something to do the widescreen switching. The rest would be just adjustment to the exsisting hardware/software.

The re-mastering of all their programmes is a far bigger problem
