I think I am right in saying that the new BBC Broadcast Centre opened earlier this month. Does this mean that transmission for all of the BBC's channel (except perhaps News 24) has been moved to this new facility from Television Centre?

It's a yes and no answer. Clear? Office staff have moved in but no TX due until next year.

They're about to start actively attempting to poach business too for their playout and trannmission centre

The transmission will be gradually moving from Television Centre over the next year or so.

The first channels to go will be UKTV, followed by the BBC's digital offerings, with BBC2 then BBC1 eventually moving to White City in about a year from now.

So we could end up with ITV1 being broadcast by BBC Broadcast Ltd. that'd be novel!

Form what I have heard they are having trouble winning BBC contracts. So don't hold your breath on that one

Anybody know if this will allow 16:9 transmission of UKTV?

Much of the stuff I'm currently revisiting on UK Drama would benefit from not being in 14:9 squeezovision.

Erm, well, they've just secured the BBC channels until 2012... not quite what you've heard. They've already struck deals with some other broadcasters - including C5 for distaster recovery.

It's not in squeezovision though, it's just in 14:9.

It IS in squeezovision if I'm being deprived of one sixteenth off each side of the original picture, and then have to zoom it up to a viewable size, thus ending up with a definition of only 546 lines on my screen.

no that's zoomoutovision - squeezovision is when it actuall sqashes the picture which does not happen with UKTV.

Whatever it is I wish they'd stop it, a large portion of what the UK_X channels show is made in 16:9, the medium supports 16:9, as does my TV. But we get everything in 4:3 because of their playout system! Pah!
