We had a loss of sound and breakfast was running for about 1 min before Phill stepped in. We had the BBC one breakdown caption and the Kite ident music on a loop.

The caption was animated Smile and had the text in top right corner. It was the basic BBC one logo slide with added text.

This is not an original capture but it's made from an image i had. http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/bbc20one201024768ae2.jpg

You are such an arse at times! Twisted Evil I don't care about quality and i am not goint to fine tune the eges of the text. Why because it doesn't matter. That is what i remember it looking like, that is how i made it.

If your'e not happy, don't look at the post!

Interesting - was it an N6 or N8 production this morning? And did it fall off the air on N24 as well?

Westy2
News 24 production.

Sound did go on N24 too, but there was no apology on/for N24(Bill only mentioned BBC1).

How come they can apologise on BBC1 but not N24?

Doesn't anyone monitor 'off air' output on N24, like they do on BBC1?

BBC One's output is controlled by a playout director at Red Bee, whereas News 24 goes more or less directly from the mixer output in N8 to the transmission chain. It is possible to switch something else to air, but it's not quite as neat and tidy as the main networks.

I saw it too - interesting that the ident music now appears to be also used as breakdown music. It was also a "clean" version of kites, i.e. had none of the wind SFX over the top as the ident has. It didn't really "loop", the breakdown ended before you could see how long it would go on for, or whether it would move onto other ident soundtracks.

Here are some actual caps, Janner south west didn't do a bad job. At least I knew roughly what to look for when I was fast forwarding at 30x to find the real thing.

The sound was lost after the 7:30 regional opt-out. I'm always suspicious when things like that happen - technical problem or someone forgetting to turn the sound back up?

I have left the subtitles on these caps. I have often wondered if the person doing the subtitles works from home or is somewhere at the BBC/Red Bee. Working from home would probably be possible as long at they were watching on terrestrial.

You will notice that the subtitler is subtitling from BBC One as they include the audio from the breakdown slide in their subtitles which according to Westy2 didn't go out on News 24 (although the subtitles probably did).

Anyway, who watches breakfast television on a bank holiday? It was obviously a fake breakdown just to give us something to talk about on here.

No, Janner didn't do too bad a job, so don't criticise him. It was only a quick recreation, who cares if it wasn't precise, it was pretty accurate.

Anyway, why are some words on the subtitles in German? Wink How long was the breakdown?
