You wonder how long it will be before the BBC takes the decision to axe Breakfast on BBC One and just put it on BBC News 24. I can't see it being done for a few years yet - but I can see it happening in the not too distant future!

Its bound to happen, when everyone goes digital there will be no need for it on BBC ONE because it'll be on News 24 which everyone will be able to receive.

Same with News 24 overnight on BBC ONE, it will just eventually have to go.

Why does anything have to happen? Just because 24 hour news channels are available you don't have to dump other news.

Why?

National News won't be axed. News 24 is not as good as BBC News on BBC ONE. Also, the overnight News 24 on BBC ONE won't be axed - what are they going to put on BBC ONE overnight?

Wouldn't it be great though if the national presenters presented on News 24 - This is BBC News 24, I'm Peter Sissons!

I'm pretty sure they will stay, BBC1 will become a family mix channel compared to specific category channels such as News 24, and therefore will have a bit of everything.

If they do move, I wonder if the idents will go to News 24 for the 1,6,10 bulletins? Also, why don't BBC News 24 use the old BBC News at Nine titles at 9 o'clock? I wish the Nine O'Clock News was back.

Talking about the BBC News at Nine, does anyone have it on tape from when it was broadcast, to get the sting, if they had one, for TV Home?

I originally thought they would, but now I doubt that they'd dump the 1, 6 and 10 when it all goes Digital. My reasons:

  • I know it's pathetic, but it's in the national culture to have fixed news programmes and many people like it - and the ITC (and probably OFCOM will) believe that UK viewers should get a varied dose of TV, hence the need for news on main entertainment channels
  • This kind of fixed programme would mean that News 24 would be restricted when it comes to covering breaking news, which is what News 24 is supposed to do. I read this only today - it's on Produxion (big News 24 story).
