Anyone notice the new side bar. They've got rid of the faded news 24 logo and have introduced a solid white '24' on it instead (just like the 1, 6 and 10 logo).
I like it. With it in the same manner as the graphics for '1', '6', and '10', it makes BBC ONE viewers more aware of NEWS 24, and almost establishes as it being equal to other output.
No it doesn't!
Surely it confuses the entire News 24 service aims?
News 24 wants to be a 24 hour news channel, yet it is doing bulletins for a main programme?
It strikes me that the BBC just do not have a clue when it comes to marketing.
Enough people don't have a clue what BBC News 24 is at the moment!
How on Earth this could help is beyond me.
The 'headlines every 15 minutes' trailer is stupid enough, getting viewers to think that's it... just headlines every 15 minutes and nothing else.
But to do this must confuse the average viewer even more.
People will now get into the habit of thinking News 24 is just a short bulletin service (which, if it wants to be a 24 hour news channel, it cannot be!).
Not once, in about 2 years, have I seen someone refer to News 24 as 'The BBC's 24 hour news channel'. Trailers at launch called it a news channel.
But to the average viewer who doesn't remember trailers from 2 years ago, they simply will not have a clue what this 'service' is.
It has to go down as possibly the worst ever attempt at getting viewers to understand and associate with a service.
When the BBC has made up its mind what it wants News 24 to be then perhaps they should start running trailers again, but until then they need to have a serious overview of the service, how it operates and what they actually want News 24 to be.
