BBC axe TV channel controllers

Charlotte Moore now controls everything on the BBC (January 2016)

The slightly odd thing noted in the article is...
Quote:
The restructure does not affect BBC3, run by Damian Kavanagh, which will become an online-only channel next month.

...meaning that technically there is still a controller of 'BBC3'.

This seems slightly at odds with Moore also being "handed control of content for the BBC iPlayer". I presume there are some difference between the newly merged channel controller role and 'director of television' role, which at a very quick glance sound similar.

On a cynical note I couldn't help noting that the late timing of this announcement means by a happy coincidence missed the latest edition of Private Eye printed yesterday.

It's pretty obvious that he'll be binned off when convenient, probably not long ahead of getting rid of the husk of BBC3 branding that'll remain at that point.

It's Digitalspy that's full of people who despise the BBC (or most likely a handful of people with mulitple accounts!), not here!

Hear hear! The one big difference between TV Forum and Digitalspy is that you can criticise the BBC without being labelled a BBC hater on here! TVForum seems more constructive in its discussions and as the BBC rightly belongs to us it is fitting that we should be able to criticise where possible, and praise when necessary. The BBC largely does most things right. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to express our concerns about it too.

How else does anyone expect to get a high level of service.

Wasn't branding and presentation under the remit of the channel controllers? It'll be interesting to see if anything changes as a result of one person being responsible.

So 2.5 TV channels don't get an individual in charge of them but a run down service offering 2 hours of content a week does.

Lets just say that BBC Three isn't really on there minds, Hell that is just someone sitting in the BBC office posting gifs most of the time anyway.

For £25m/year I'd want great GIFs.

The BBC are stuck in the past if they're trying to get young people to watch linear GIFs like their parents watched. They now expect on demand, interactive Gfycats and GIFVs!

I think they could do worse than to be "inspired by" Sky 1/2/3's 2008-2011 idents - i.e. the same idents across all three channels (BBC One/Two/Four), but with their respective numerals/colours therein.

Janice Hadlow, former BBC2 Controller and most recently Director of Special Projects & Seasons, is also leaving the BBC:
