Is it just me or do BBC continuity announcers make appearances on UKTV?

Yeah, I've heard Duncan on UKTV Gold a few times. They're broadcast from the same building (BBC Broadcast Centre) so it's best to make use of existing resources!

Who's the announcer who closed the old BBC ONE idents in October? I think he is the best one at the moment.

That was Phil Vowels. He was also the last announcer to use the 1991 "laserdisc" globe (before the balloons era).

Thanks.

No that's not the one I was thinking of. He was on last Saturday night on BBC1 - does a good job don't get me wrong just not as creative as the others.

I know who you mean, I've got a clip, it's this one isn't it; I just don't know the name.

Who was the first voice over the new BBC2 idents, and is there any video of the first appearance?

Just going back to the UKTV announcers, does anyone know why UKTV G2 seems to have two announcers at once who seem to have a conversation with each other during their announcements?

Right, yes! I did have another (admittedly rather distorted) clip somewhere which I knew was of him and he does sound a tad different, but then it wasn't a very recent clip Laughing

Thats's the one!

Good voice but lacks any enthusiasm or creativity in his links, very much the old school not like the brash Duncan Newmarch! Only kidding for me DM is a breath of fresh air.

BBC1 seems to have one announcer going from 2:30pm weekdays right through to end of play - and we know how late that can be.
10 and 12 hour shifts aren't exactly uncommon in the world of broadcasting - and quite bearable if it means you only have to work 3 or 4 days in a week.

You'll probably find that playout directors and pres ops working not dissimilar shifts - though they work night shifts too.

It seems to me that CA shift patterns are still based on the days before 24-hour broadcasting, in which case they need updating and live continuity made the norm round the clock.

What would be the point? For a start BBC1 does have live presentation for most of the night and for the rest of the time the amount of work and the number of viewers is minimal to make it not worth doing at all.

Now remind me, who was on the last night of the BBC1 balloon? Wink

If they're on air, it's worth doing. The small hours and the Learning Zone seem more vulnerable to problems. Not to mention the two-minute silence on July 7, where the absence of any apology for the on-air shambles was unforgivable.
