Perhaps I have just been following the wrong junctions but it seems to me that network BBC1/2 announcers are no longer namechecking at "closedown" on either channel. This was especially noteable over Christmas when not even Duncan Newmarch signed off with his name on Boxing Night, nor did Becky Wright on 15 December. BBC NI announcers, I am told, are continuing to namecheck however.

Is there a new directive at Red Bee asking the annos not to identify themselves I wonder?

But didn't Peter Brook more often than not bother giving himself a namecheck when he was on evening duty?

Peter Brook was actually the one anno who habitually DIDN'T namecheck later in his career. He did so in 1981, but just nine years later he never did and we were left wondering who it was. Tim Nichols was another.

I suspect the fact we have had no namechecks from anyone this year, compared to last Christmas, suggests new "guidelines" have been issued.

Why are you writing guidelines in inverted commas?

Instead of your usual suspicions, why don't you just pose the question to those you know do the job?

Must everything be an insidious conspiracy theory?

Yes well if I knew who you were I'd know if you were in a position to judge.

Simon, you always seem to talk as if you're are speaking on behalf of the entire television viewing population in the United Kingdom. However, the fact is, that nobody else actually cares who the hell is announcing. I know you may harp on about a lovely warm relationship between BBC playout and the viewer, but this is not the 1970s, nobody cares.

Happy new year to you also Jugalug.

People on this forum at least do care, otherwise we all wouldn't be here.

As everyone keeps trying to explain to you, Red Bee don't decide on such things. Its staff will do whatever the BBC tell them to do or not to do!

Simon, for the third time: why don't you ask a CA this rather than speculating?

Why are you saying that? I genuinely do hope you have a good year, even though I am disagreeing with you. I'm not sure why that comes into it.
