BBC One today confirms its brand new Saturday night entertainment show Let It Shine (working title) in conjunction with Gary Barlow and presented by Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc.
Let It Shine (w/t) will be seeking out talent to create a band who will join the cast of a brand new stage show featuring the music of Take That, created in association with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald.

Over eight weeks of competition, BBC One and Gary Barlow will be looking for talented individuals to form a new group that exudes the charisma, showmanship and stage presence that the hit group has become so famous for.

Gary will be joined by three mentors each week on Let It Shine (w/t) to find the very best talent the country has to offer. The winning group will perform the hits of the band in a nationwide musical stage show called The Band.

Sounds more like the Andrew Lloyd Webber programmes of the last decade where they found Maria and Joseph rather than The Voice.

I can't help thinking of the phrase "You can't polish a t***". I guess they think they can now.

Yes, it's not exactly something you can make several series out of

Oh sweet Jesus. I thought we saw the back of these horrendous Lloyd Webber-esque things. I swear whoever is in charge of BBC One's new commissions on a Saturday night (besides McIntyre's Big Show) needs to be slapped.

With the general audience I bet it will kill The Voice in the ratings. ITV are paying 800k per hour for the Voice. Shocked 3 year deal!

ITV will be complaining to Whittingdale!

It's probably more Whittingdale friendly though, encouraging people to go to see live musical theatre.

The question is, is there really a need to pay two presenters to front this programme?

I'd say sacked more than slapped.

This is not having a go at you personally, but do we have to justify any BBC programme now using more than one presenter? If the format would work better with two presenters, it can have two presenters. There are more people working on a programme than the presenters.

I know the BBC needs to cut costs, but counting the number of presenters is no way to monitor it. It's like suggesting BBC programmes should only use solo artists as musical acts to pay fewer appearance fees.
